Two New Projects

Since I’ve finished all three Waldorf Pinnies for the girls for Christmas, I’m working on a couple more Christmas projects.

The first is a sweater for my husband. He’s been asking me for years now to knit him a sweater, but honestly, I’ve been a little intimidated. He’s pretty particular about what he wants, so I’m hoping this is exactly it! He wanted a classic style but with a rolled neck – like how stockinette tends to roll on itself. I’m not sure how to do that, but the neck is the last piece of the sweater, so I’ll worry about that when I get to the end. The pattern is Drake and I’m using Cascade 220 Superwash in Aporto, mainly because I was getting gauge with the Waldorf Pinny and so I didn’t have to knit a swatch! It is a really pretty blue green color. Also, I’m knitting both sleeves concurrently as described by Miso Crafty Knits. So far, it’s been working well and it will be nice to have both sleeves done at the same time.

The second project is for the girls’ stockings – the Pom Pom Peds. They are really, really bright in Manos del Uruguay Alegria in the colorway Carnaval. Even though they don’t wear socks normally, they will be nice to wear around the house. They are ladies’ sizing but I plan on scaling them down to fit each of the girls.

So my plan is to knit for my husband when he’s not home, and knit for the girls when they are asleep. I don’t usually like having two projects at once, but that’s the only way I’m going to get these surprise projects done!

    • Thank you! Yes, the color is really growing on me. I usually don’t go with a solid yarn, but if you look close, this has some very, very subtle mixes of blue and green.

  1. Just found you while knitting via Yarn Along. I don’t know the Drake pattern, but for rolling you will want to omit the ribbing. I think Elizabeth Zimmerman has at least one sweater with a rolling color in her Knitting Without Tears book. I’d go look, but we’re still moving in and I’m not sure which box it’s in. As said above you might try just knitting where it tells you to rib and see if you like it. Or add a row or three of garter ridges( or purls only for a row or two) followed by more stockinette. Good luck. Cascade makes a wonderful sweater, hat, scarf, mittens. I do love it.
